Symposium Venue

      The symposium will be held in Petrolina, Pernambuco State, in northeast of Brazil. Petrolina is a fast developing city, with around 270,000 people, located in the São Francisco River Valley (SFV), about 750 km from Recife, capital of Pernambuco State, and 550 km from Salvador, capital of Bahia State.

      Petrolina is located in the center of Brazilian Semi-Arid region, with daily flights from São Paulo, Salvador and Recife, offered by the major Brazilian air companies. Salvador and Recife have direct flights from Europe and United States. São Paulo is the principal Brazilian airport with flights from most places in the world.

      Embrapa Tropical Semi-Arid is an unit of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation’s (Embrapa), dedicated to the sustainable development of irrigated and rainfed agriculture and livestock of the semi-arid region in the Northeast of Brazil.

      Petrolina is the center of the SFV, one of the top regions in the world for the production of fruits, including mangoes, table grapes and, of course, guava. In the SVF the guava production is possible in any month throughout the year due to combination of high solar radiation availability, pruning and water supply by irrigation. 'Paluma', with red flesh and big size fruits, is the most important cultivar in this region

      The International Senador Nilo Coelho (PNZ), located 10.0 Km from Petrolina downtown, is served by the major Brazilian Airlines, with daily direct flights to and from Recife Airport (REC) and Salvador Airport (SSA), with around 1 hour fly time. There are also flights to and from São Paulo (Guarulhos Airport - GRU), with connections in Recife and Salvador.
