Abstract During the last two decades, there has been a dramatic increase in the application of rainwater catchment systems for domestic water supplies and agricultural irrigation, especially for rural areas in developing countries. Tens of millions of systems have been constructed worldwide, and interest in these is continuing to grow, even in urban and industrialized regions. An old technology is gaining popularity in a new way. Rainwater collection will play an important role in solving the water shortage problems in China. This study analyzes those areas most suitable for rainwater catchment in China and presents the ranking of fitness for rainwater catchment in China and its further development in the near future. A GIS is used to help identify and list the potential areas of rainwater catchment throughout China. |
